Wales Women's greatest-ever player hangs up her boots

One would think that lifting multiple league titles in five different countries, twice winning the UEFA Champions League, being voted into the National Women's Soccer League Team of the Season five times, and being crowned the NWSL Most Valuable Player in 2021 would be enough. And yet the look of uncomplicated euphoria on Jess Fishlock's face as she became the first Welsh woman to score at a major international tournament at Euro 2025 in Switzerland suggested otherwise. Wales had equalised against France with less than quarter of an hour gone, following a sobering 3-0 defeat in the opening game against the Netherlands, and although the Dragons would go on to lose all three games of the group stage, Wales' greatest-ever female footballer had ticked another thing off her career bucket list.
