BOBBY Wilkinson admits even his own family were surprised to see him take the vacant manager's job at relegated Swindon Supermarine - but he's determined to show them the reason why he did.

The 45-year-old is back in the game with the Southern League Division One South new boys, just a month after leaving an ill-fated five-match spell in charge of Bracknell Town.

Wilkinson has spent the majority of his managerial career in the upper tiers of the Non-League game, notably in National League South with the likes of Hemel Hempstead Town, Weymouth, Wealdstone and Hungerford Town.

Now, however, his new role sees him take a drop down to Step 4 for the first time since his first spell at Bracknell when he led the Robins to a juggernaut season in Isthmian South Central in 2021-22, losing just one game along the way.
