PREMIER League AFC Bournemouth could secure the highest finish in their history this afternoon under their impressive boss Andoni Iraola.

PREM STAR WAS BORN A ROMAN

But it’s not all that long ago that one of their main protagonists was plying his trade in National League South.

Antoine Semenyo has established himself as one of the Cherries’ most exciting and effective players, registering nine goals and five assists so far this season. A skilful forward, who combines power and poise to devastating effect, he has become a pivotal part of Iraola’s revolution, attracting the attentions of Manchester United among others.

But only seven years ago, having just turned 18, Semenyo was given his first taste of senior action in a loan spell at Bath City from Bristol City. Concord Rangers were the opponents.

Jerry Gill had recently taken over as the Romans manager and wanted to boost their play-off push.

"I was in the process of changing the club’s philosophy. We were after more energy and athleticism," says Gill, who spent seven years in charge of Bath and is now director of football at Solihull Moors.

"Brian Tinnion, who was the loans manager at Bristol City, became a really good ally. He mentioned Antoine and I didn’t hesitate. He was a raw project. He wasn’t polished, but I knew he would have a massive impact at that level."
