GARY Madine's third goal in a Hartlepool United shirt fired his team to within two points of the National League play-offs after a dramatic victory over Yeovil Town.

The supersub's 83rd-minute strike snatched victory in a howling wind at Victoria Park just three minutes after Kofi Shaw's stunner for Yeovil had cancelled out Mani Dieseruvwe's hotly-disputed penalty.

It proved an eventful clash between two clubs with aspirations for top-seven place and maintained Pools's impressive run under veteran boss Lennie Lawrence, who has lost just once in 10 games.

Play was held up for over 15 minutes in the first half after damage to a sign high on the Rink End and firstteam coach Gavin Skelton said victory was worth the wait.

"Given the conditions it I was just great that it was a game we came out on the right end of, and I thought we deserved," said Skelton.
