HUGHES IN SWOOP FOR ALTY ACE REGAN

ALTRINCHAM say they didn’t want to sell star striker Regan Linney to Non-League new boys Carlisle United — but will now give boss Phil Parkinson the funds to replace him.

The 28-year-old hit 25 goals for the Robins in 2024-25 and interest has been high for his services. He also made the official National League Team of the Season.

Alty say they wanted to keep hold of Linney but the ex-Bamber Bridge and FC United man wanted to talk to Mark Hughes’ side, who have just been relegated from League Two.

“Regan remained very much part of our plans for the upcoming season, and it was never our intention to sell,” Alty said in a club statement. “However, following growing interest over the summer, we received offers from a number of clubs in the Football League. During this period, Regan made clear his desire to pursue a move and specifically pushed for the opportunity to speak to Carlisle United.
