Remco takes TT triple crown

Belgian bags third world title, and catches Pogačar in the process

With just over a kilometre to go of the elite men's time trial at the Road World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda, Belgium's Remco Evenepoel caught Slovenia's Tadej Pogačar. That isn't supposed to happen.

Pogačar, the road world champion, inarguably the best cyclist in the world, came into the event as one of the favourites. He started two and a half minutes ahead of Evenepoel, and would have hoped to have challenged on a hilly course. But he was only good enough for fourth, 2:37 behind Evenepoel, as the Belgian was in a league of his own.
