Is gaming good for you?
The Week Junior Science+Nature UK
|Issue 79
Gaming is great fun, but some worry it could be bad for young people's health.
-
The International Olympic Committee recently announced that Saudi Arabia will be the host for the Esports Olympics, which are starting in 2025. Esports stands for electronic sports, and is a term used to describe competitive video gaming. Unlike the games you play in your sitting room, it’s usually watched by an audience and there’s a prize at the end for the winner.
Playing video games, whether it’s competitively or just for fun, is very popular. A recent report found that 89% of young people in the UK had played a video game in 2023. However, some people are concerned that too much gaming can have a negative impact on physical and mental health. It’s a booming industry, but is gaming good for you?
