EU farmers protest Ukraine, Mercosur bloc trade deals

HUNDREDS OF farmers in Madrid, Spain, held protests on June 4 against cheap grain imports from Ukraine and other countries which, they said, had decreased food prices below production costs.

The protests were a day before the EU's temporary free trade deal with conflictridden Ukraine ended, which would now be replaced with a quota system. The farmers in Spain, quoted in media reports, are also against foodgrain imports from the Mercosur bloc (Argentina, Brazil,
