India to Launch 52 Defence Satellites

India is accelerating plans to launch 52 defence surveillance satellites to enhance monitoring along borders with China and Pakistan and across the Indian Ocean.

Costing ₹26,968 crore, this programme responds to China's growing military space activities. Under Phase 3 of the Space-Based Surveillance (SBS) initiative, ISRO will launch 21 satellites, with private firms developing 31. The first launch is set for April 2026, with completion by 2029.
