Beginner's Choice!

|December 2023
Sab IP has been quite vocal in the past about the need for budget-priced mirrorless cameras in the Indian market. As cellphone manufacturers captured the lower end of the market, camera makers chose to move more and more upmarket with their products.
Canon EOS R 100 ₹ 47,000
The focus on full frame in recent years led to a gaping hole in the market with no attractively priced product for the beginner. Remember the good old days when the Pentax K 1000 sold by the bucket loads and every beginner in photography wanted one. Canon seemed to have listened and we have with us the new R 100 which is an attractively priced APS-C mirrorless camera.
Design & Build Quality
Remember that this is an entry-level camera priced aggressively. The R 100 is small and compact. Dimensions are 116.3 x 85.5 x 101.3 mm and indicate how compact the camera is. The body weighs a mere 486 gms including the battery and card. The body came with Canon's 18-45 mm f 4.5-6.3 STM lens (29-72 mm in 35 mm terms) which is image stabilised. The lens has a plastic mount. The body likewise is a plastic effort and is not weather-sealed. The finish, however, is good. The camera is made in Japan.
