3 MUST-HAVE FILTERS FOR SHOOTING LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography Masterclass Magazine
|Issue 146
While digital photography has made many filters redundant through post-processing software like Photoshop, there are still some essential filters that can't be replaced.
-

In my experience, these filters can truly transform your landscape photography. In this article, I'll walk you through the 3 must-have filters for landscape photography, explain their specific uses, and share tips on how to maximize their potential based on my years of shooting landscapes.
Before we dive in, here's something crucial you need to know: always check your lens cap for the correct filter size (marked in mm) before making a purchase. Each lens has its own specific filter thread diameter, and using the wrong size simply won't work.
And trust me on this one you'll definitely want a sturdy tripod when working with these filters!

What makes polarising filters special? Well, they're one of those rare pieces of gear that can't be effectively replicated through post-processing software. In my experience, that alone makes them worth their weight in gold.
These filters serve two primary functions that I find invaluable. First, they eliminate glare and haze when shooting in direct sunlight. Second, and perhaps more importantly, they remove reflections from surfaces like glass something that's practically impossible to achieve in post-production.
You'll find polarising filters in two varieties: linear and circular. I strongly recommend circular polarisers. They're not only easier to adjust for precise control, but they also play nicely with your camera's autofocus system, unlike their linear counterparts which can sometimes confuse it.
What I love most about polarisers is how they enhance image quality. By cutting out reflective glare and stray light, they allow you to capture more detail in highlights while intensifying colors.
