Located in South Asia, India is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country, and the most populous democracy globally. India is also considered one of the most diverse countries in the world.

Throughout its long and tumultuous history, various traditions, languages, religions, cultures, and tribes blended while retaining their unique customs, beliefs, and practices. It is Indian cultural diversity that makes India unique and beautiful.

Modern humans migrated to India from Africa about 55,000 years ago, living as hunter-gatherers and contributing to the highly diverse human genetics, second only to the African continent. About 9,000 years ago, settlements emerged on the Indus river basin, evolving into the Indus Valley Civilisation of the third millennium BCE.
