From the Hand of God to foot in mouth, Lineker shares his views
Yorkshire Evening Post

Billed as a 'wide ranging conversation', Amol Rajan's BBC interview with Gary Lineker promised reflections on life from the footballer turned pundit turned self-styled political commentator.
-
Lineker has spent some four decades in the spotlight, first as a footballer with top flight teams, then as host of Match of the Day. The ex England striker has spent 25 years on MOTD but his departure was preceded by the Beeb's own VAR decision after 'those' tweets.
For a player who was never once booked throughout his playing career, the incident was uncharacteristically controversial.
So, as he gets ready to leave the show, Amol Rajan Interviews: Gary Lineker promised a look behind the scenes when he was taken off air, as well as the reasons why he's quitting and a look at some of the most memorable moments of his career on the pitch, including Maradona's 'Hand of God' goal in the 1986 World Cup and Gazza's tears in 1990. What you get right from the word go is that the ego has landed. This is a man who clearly has a high opinion of himself.
He's convinced the BBC wanted him to leave Match of the Day after he tweeted about the Government's asylum policy. This in turn prompted a debate on whether a high profile (and highly paid-he's supposedly made £1.35m in the past year) pundit should be expressing political views on social media.
