At your service - jobs head to Leeds in drive to cut costs

The Leeds economy is among those set to benefit across the UK after Labour announced plans to move thousands more civil service jobs out of London as they seek to cut costs and "radically reform the state".

Leeds City Council leader Coun James Lewis said: “We welcome the Government's continued recognition of Leeds as a key hub for civil service roles. With over 14,000 civil servants already based in Leeds, this announcement builds on our role as a major centre for government outside London.”

The Government says it will cut the number of civil servants working in London by 12,000 and shift jobs to a series of new regional “campuses” across the country.
