As part of the war against drugs campaign being run by the Punjab government, the state's Finance Minister Mr Harpal Singh Cheema called upon the Pindan De Pehredaar (guards of villages) of all 247 villages on district Mansa to unite and fight against drugs.

With the slogan of Bole So Nihal, Mr Cheema administered oath against drugs to all the members of village defence committees that have been formed in villages across the state to keep an eye on drugs and help addicts find way to treatment.

Addressing a massive gathering at a palace on Jawaharke Road, Mr Harpal Cheema said Punjab fell under spell of drugs during regime of those governments that worked in principles of nepotism and dynastic politics.
