Operation Dulhan-drop: A tale of match making

Flashback in glorious year of 1983. It was the time when I joined the prestigious State Judicial Service. Upon joining, our entire batch of 35 officers was sent firstly for revenue training at State Institute of Public Administration which in those days was housed in a private kothi in sector 5 of Chandigarh.
Then came the turn for police training. For that Police Training Academy at Phillaur was the venue. The training centre was in an ancient fort built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
At the fort, all future judicial minds rubbed shoulders with future guardians of law and order. The fort was like a temporary prison. The hostel rooms were like barracks lined up in a row near the Officers Mess. All the temporary residents of these barracks were young, dashing and very much on the matrimonial radar. All eyes were on us. Every parent wanted their daughter to be having such an alliance with any one of us.
