Ex-sailor avoids jail after attacking wife

FORMER Royal Navy sailor launched a vicious attack on his wife after downing half a litre of whisky during an evening spent with friends.

But he was not jailed because he is currently paying half the mortgage on the home she still lives in as they prepare to divorce.

Andrew McCann, of Amherst Road, Plymouth, appeared at Plymouth Crown Court on January 2 after he pleaded guilty to the charge of assault.

The court heard how McCann was annoyed when his wife Rachel did not go to bed in the early hours of March this year at their home in Plymouth. She tried to record the argument on her phone so they could talk about his annoyances the next day.
