Ship retracing Darwin's voyage due to return to Falmouth
Western Morning News (Saturday)
|July 12, 2025
A SHIP retracing Charles Darwin’s journey around the world is set to make a historic homecoming in Cornwall.
-
The 108-year-old Oosterschelde has been on a two-year global voyage after setting sail from Plymouth in the summer of 2023.
The Darwin200 Global Voyage has seen it visit every port on the route Darwin famously took aboard the HMS Beagle.
His experiences and observations as a naturalist on the ship on a five-year voyage from 1831 helped him develop his theory of evolution through natural selection. Darwin returned to Falmouth on October 2, 1836.
