Jug's interest from far and wide

THE star performance during Eldreds sale of art and antiques on November 20 went to a collection of 20th century Chinese ceramics, where a Chinese celadon-glazed barrel-shaped jar measuring just 16cm high was hotly contested by bidders online and on the telephone from China, Vietnam and other far-flung parts of the world, eventually falling to a bid of £7,200.

This astonishing result was swiftly followed by a Ming-style lotus palace bowl at 14cm which reached £5,000. Other highlights in the sale included a pair of Sutton Seed advertising cases, each containing numerous catalogued grasses, these rarely come up at auction, with this pair reaching £1,650.
