THE wealthiest people in Wales have been revealed in the latest Sunday Times Rich List.

- IAN LEWIS Reporter ian.lewis@walesonline.co.uk

Topping this year’s list in Wales, once again, are Cardiff-born venture capitalist Sir Michael Moritz and his wife, Harriet Heyman, with a combined worth of £4.43bn - despite having seen their fortune decrease by an estimated £200m in the past 12 months.

The list, which has been updated annually since 1989, ranks the 350 richest people in the UK.

The survey is based on identifiable wealth including land, property, other assets such as art and racehorses, or significant shares in publicly quoted companies.

It excludes bank accounts, to which the paper has no access.

The top five include a couple behind an opticians chain and a property mogul.

In second place is tech entrepreneur Simon Nixon, who held the same spot last year and saw a £70m rise in his wealth, taking him to £1.95bn.

Coming in third with £1.539bn are Douglas and Dame Mary Perkins and family, who founded the optician chain Specsavers.

Telecoms tycoon Sir Terry Matthews is in fourth place at £1.338bn, a drop of £2m since last year’s list.

Rounding off the top five is landlord David Sullivan and family, with wealth of £1.118bn, dropping £50m on last year.
