The BBC is not immune to change

AS THE fallout from top BBC resignations continues, supporters of the corporation claim right-wing forces are undermining its future.

That may, or may not, be so, but the foundation of this crisis rests on an error of editorial judgment.

That error in editing a speech by Donald Trump follows other cases of perceived political bias by the supposedly impartial national broadcaster.

Panorama’s stitching together of a Trump speech has opened up a wound into which further infection could take hold. It is a self-inflicted wound.

And, for an organisation that holds itself to the highest standards amid a deluge of so-called news sites peddling misinformation, this was indeed the time for an unabashed apology with no caveats.
