REVIEW: TOM JONES, CARDIFF CASTLE

THE honorary King of Wales Sir Tom Jones returned to Cardiff Castle and it honestly felt like he never left. The It’s Not Unusual singer scheduled the final shows of his European tour in the Welsh capital and despite rumours swirling after recent gigs were cancelled, he blew everyone away with his phenomenal voice on Wednesday's opening night.

After a lot of uncertainty and concern surrounding his health, it was finally the day that Sir Tom came back to his homeland and proved at 85 years old, he still has it.

This was the second time I'd seen him perform in Cardiff, the first being at the Principality Stadium alongside Stereophonics in 2022.

As I walked through the castle's gates after standing in some very long queues, it was clear it was sold out, as the venue was absolutely packed and the atmosphere was electric.

Crowds were excited to hear some classic Tom hits and boogie with their family, friends and strangers they might have just met over a pint.

At around 8.45pm the Treforest native took to the stage and immediately burst into an emotional rendition of I'm Growing Old. From the first note, the audience was absolutely silent. Everyone was speechless as we watched one of the greatest vocalists of all time, a man in his 80s who in that moment was completely vulnerable, singing about growing older.
