Prison plan must address local fears

BEHIND the high fences of HMP Parc, plans are under way that could reshape life for hundreds of prisoners - and for its neighbours who live beyond the walls.

The UK's Ministry of Justice is hoping to expand the facility to house hundreds more inmates and staff, making it reportedly the second-largest prison in Europe.

The proposed expansion would see a new "K-shaped" houseblock for around 345 prisoners, along with 160 new staff.

It is part of a UK-wide push to add 14,000 prison places by 2031 as forecasts warn that current capacity could run out by 2026.

However, the news has caused concern for those living nearby.
