Man accused of rape ‘had indifference to consent'

A MAN accused of raping three women over a 20-year period had an “absolute indifference” to consent during sex, a court has heard.

Daniel Gravell, a 43-year-old former teacher and wedding venue manager, is charged with three counts of rape relating to separate incidents in 2002, 2005 and 2022.
Yesterday, Swansea Crown Court heard that a friend called Ieuan Davies walked in on Gravell, who denies the charges, while one of the alleged victims was giving the defendant oral sex in 2022.
A statement read on Mr Davies’ behalf said he opened the door, the woman stopped and pulled the sheet over herself, and Mr Davies shouted “something like ‘go on, Gravsy!’
The evidence to be heard in the trial was concluded yesterday when both prosecution barrister Matthew Cobbe and defence barrister Tom Crowther KC gave closing arguments.
Mr Cobbe asked the jury: “Is this a stitch-up?” regarding the accusations made against Gravell by the women.
