Hundreds march through city in court ruling protest
Western Mail
|April 22, 2025
MORE than 1,000 people marched through Cardiff city centre yesterday to protest against the Supreme Court's ruling on the definition of a woman.
Protesters brought banners, horns and speakers and sang chants as they gathered for a vibrant demonstration of pride and solidarity.
Last Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled “the terms ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex”.
It has divided opinion, with many people labelling it a backwards step in the fight for equality, while others have celebrated the verdict, calling it “common sense”.
The ruling came after Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland brought a legal challenge against the Scottish Parliament for passing an Act aimed at improving the gender balance on public boards.
The divisive part was the amendment that included all trans women in the scope of the legislation.
