Fuchs ready to go back to basics to ensure survival

CHRISTIAN Fuchs is adamant that League Two survival for Newport County is more impor- tant than his personal philosophy after suffering a 3-0 defeat at Oldham Athletic in his first match in charge.

A 12th loss in 17 games means County remain rooted to the bottom of the table and are now four points adrift and five from safety.
But the new manager insists he saw enough in the first half at Boundary Park, and in the away changing room after the match, to reaffirm his belief that the Exiles can beat the drop - if they can cut out the errors at the back.
"The boys left it all out there," said Fuchs. "They tried hard, they never stopped, even when we went down.
