NIGEL Farage has insisted he is not disappointed after Reform UK came a distant second in last week's Caerphilly by-election.
-
Lindsay Whittle was elected as the new Plaid Cymru member for Caerphilly after winning 47% of the vote, while Reform's candidate Llyr Powell ‘was 3,000 votes behind on 36%.
Labour, which had held the seat since devolution and also hold the Westminster constituency, came in a distant third with just 3,713 votes.
Shortly after the result on Friday, Mr Farage indicated he believed that Labour had lost votes to Plaid Cymru in away he had not fully expected.
After analysing the result over the weekend, Mr Farage said he “can’t be disappointed”
He said that under the new voting system which will be used for next May's Senedd elections, Reform and Plaid would have the same number of MSs for the new constituency of Blaenau Gwent Caerffili Rhymni.
‘There will be a major change in the way people in Wales vote in May.
‘There will be 96 Senedd members, up from 60, elected through a proportional list system using the D'Hondt formula.
Voters in new, larger constituencies will vote for a party they want to win the most seats, out of the six available for each constituency.
