Chapel is restored to its rightful place

TEACHER Rhian Hopkins has been pinching herself after becoming the proud owner of a historic Welsh chapel along with her community, barely three weeks after starting a campaign to save it.

When she posted on Facebook that she wanted to save Capel Rhondda, where Cwm Rhondda (Bread of Heaven) was first sung, she didn’t imagine she would spark global interest, donations from as far as Hong Kong and Norway and far exceed the £47,000 price tag.

It’s a story of the power of community connection in what can often feel like divided times.
