Bridge set to partially reopen ‘in the coming days'

The Menai Suspension bridge links Anglesey to the Wales mainland

Cars, motorbikes, bikes and pedestrians are to be allowed to use the key bridge between 7am and 7pm, but it will remain fully closed overnight.

The Welsh Government says it is working with UK Highways to partially reopen the bridge, which was closed on Saturday after bolts underneath the structure were found to have degraded.

It was warned it would be closed for weeks and has meant all traffic have had to use the only other crossing between Anglesey and the Wales mainland, the two-lane Britannia Bridge.

In a statement yesterday, the Welsh Government said the full closure will remain in place overnight but it will be open between 7am and 7pm to cars, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians “in the coming days”.

Cyclists will have to dismount when on the bridge and use the footpath.
