The rush of high speed water races

STANDING on the veranda of our mobile home in West Bay, I suddenly become aware of a strange sound similar to that of a helicopter.

It seemed to be coming from the front near the harbour and so after donning hat and coat and picking up my camera I made my way across the site and along a passageway to the beach front road. Imagine my surprise as I turned the corner to find it crowded with jet skis, trailers and cars. The noise I had heard was in fact the sound of skis which were currently racing around the bay in pursuit of each other.

Watching this event were hundreds of people, some on the beach and others at various vantage points along the harbour wall. Walking towards the harbour, I was aware of yet more powerboats moored below. ‘A very professionally organised event there was a mobile commentary box and speakers cleverly located around the site so that spectators were able to get up-to-the-minute reports on events.
