Students' meaningful work experience

STUDENTS from Preston School in Yeovil are taking part in a pioneering project to transform what work experience is like to ensure children from disadvantaged backgrounds get access to high-quality opportunities.

Organisers said the pilot project is designed to challenge a broken system and aims to show that work experience can be more than just a week of photocopying and shadowing - it can be a launchpad into the digital economy.

Instead of the traditional model - where one to two students shadow an employer for a week - this new centralised approach has seen 30 students completing work experience together. They have followed a bespoke curriculum, designed to simulate working in the digital sector.

This initiative - delivered in partnership between Speakers for Schools, The Hg Foundation, and Evo Academy - is designed to tackle the UK's social mobility crisis and open doors to the digital sector.
