Mayor Ashley Bowkett has explained why he changed his mind over calling a special meeting before Christmas. The Liberal Democrat councillor for Barnwood said he wished to “set the record straight” after comments online and coverage in the media about last Thursday's special meeting which gave an update on the city council's dire financial situation.
He took aim at the creation of Al-generated video of him and said he never refused to hold such a meeting but felt holding it after Christmas would have given councillors more time to consider the information.
The authority is applying for an emergency loan from the Government of between £12.5million and £17.5million.
