Three teams share top of the table as visiting clubs enjoy soggy day
West Briton (Truro and Mid Cornwall)
|May 29, 2025
On a day of grey skies and patchy drizzle, there was a dramatic fourth round of games in the Bond Timber Cornwall Premier where all five home clubs lost.
The last time that happened in the top flight was on 1st July 2023.
Leaders Callington lost their first game of the season. Grampound Road won for the first time to move off the bottom. Penzance lost by just one run in a DLS game, and Redruth won by one wicket thanks to a late partnership.
As a result, there is a three-way tie at the top between Callington, Redruth and Wadebridge on 61 points, and just 12 points cover the top seven.
With Mo Danyaal (5-35) reducing St Austell to 21-4 at Callington, the visitors needed a recovery and got it through in-form skipper Alex Bone (59), Thevindu Dickwella (46) and 43 not out from Gary Bone to post 181-8. With Xavie Clarke making 61 at 117-2, the home side looked on course.
However, Andrew Libby (4-27), Michael Bone (3-40) and Gary Bone with 1-16 from ten overs had other ideas. Ben Ellis hit a late six but was the last man out caught in the deep to leave St Austell winners by six runs with two balls remaining.
