Work on new homes could start by end of the year

NEW homes can be built next to a former mill after revised plans were approved.

Work on new homes could start by end of the year

The Nurseries site is sandwiched between the existing homes on the A371 Cumnock Road and the former BMI site in Castle Cary, where planning permission for 81 homes was granted on appeal in August 2024.

The Nurseries has had planning permission for 24 homes in place since 2008, with work being carried out to clear the site but none of the houses being built.

New owner Biophilic Ltd put forward amended proposals for the same number of homes in January, including a change the access arrangements.

Somerset Council has now given these revised plans the go-ahead ~ meaning the first bricks could finally be laid before the year is over.

Under the original plans, the new homes would have been access from Cumnock Road, using the same access road as the BMI development.

From Sudan to Wells – mayor shares his remarkable story

IS truth sometimes stranger than fiction? Quite possibly. Could you write it? A ten-year-old boy from the Sudan, speaking no English, arrives in London in 1981. Forty-four years later he becomes the 651st Right Worshipful Mayor of a beautiful, quintessential tiny English city in the rural south-west of England. True or false? Totally true. We are talking about Councillor Louis Agabani and, of course, we are talking about Wells, and we are at the November meeting of Wells Civic Society, where Louis told his story.
