Drug-driver who hit wall gets ban

Wells Journal

December 18, 2025

A MAN who was unable to answer basic police questioning has been banned from driving for five years after officers found him under the influence of drugs behind the wheel.

A silver Mercedes B-Class was seen by a member of the public across the A39 near Wells on Monday, August 22. The driver, Jack Brownless (pictured inset), of Hazelbury Brian in Dorset, also struck a wall, and another driver tried to assist him.

He got back into the car and came to a stop at the Green Ore Crossroads before officers found him at around 5:45pm.

Body-worn footage from Avon and Somerset police officers who spoke to Brownless shows him barely able to understand basic questions.

The 39-year-old gave a positive roadside drug test for cannabis and was taken into custody.

After his arrest, several small bags of ketamine were found inside the cup holders and on the driver's seat of the vehicle.

Cannabis inside a tobacco pouch was also found in the centre console.
