THE Byzantine Catholic Patriarchate (BCP), a conservative Catholic group describes themselves as a community of monks, priests and bishops living in monasteries and exiled in the Czech Republic.

Byzantine Catholic Patriarchate's critical stance on Pope Leo XIV

The BCP is headed by Patriarch Elijah with two Secretary Bishops, Timothy and Methodius. The group said they arose from the need to defend the fundamental Christian truths against heresies and apostasy.

The group was opposed to the previous Pope Francis (previously Jorge Mario Bergoglio), calling him an apostate and an heretic, saying he advocated for LGBTQ rights among others and is also against the election of the current Pope Leo XIV (previously cardinal Robert Prevost), believing that he will follow in his predecessor's footsteps by continuing his policies.

Weekend Argus content manager Edwin Lombard sent the group a couple of questions on how they felt about new Pope Leo XIV. Bishop Timothy answered on behalf of the BCP Secretariat:

Before we comment on the new successor of Francis Bergoglio, who took the name Leo XIV, it is necessary to realize the most fundamental questions, namely: What is the purpose of the papacy and of the Church?

The purpose is to proclaim the Word of God, the truths of God, the teachings of Christ, to transmit the Spirit of Christ with the main goal: that souls may strive to live by faith, be rooted in Christ, and at the hour of death enter into the happy eternity that God has prepared for those who love Him and keep His commandments.

Another problem is that the pseudo-Pope Bergoglio completed the gradual process of apostasy and completely changed the nature of the Church and the papacy. By legalizing and even blessing one of the gravest sins, he made it publicly clear, without the slightest doubt, that whoever accepts his programme, that is, Bergoglio's programme, is diametrically opposed to Christ Himself. That is to say, such a person is an apostate who, if he continues on this path, will be eternally damned.
