A CHEQUE for more than £7,000 has been handed to Children’s Hospice South West after hundreds of schoolchildren braved the wilds of Exmoor in a fundraising endurance challenge.

Exmoor Rotary Club, backed by Rotarians from Tiverton and Exe Valley, presented a donation of £7,283.53 to the charity following the success of the annual Rotary Exmoor Youth Challenge, which took place on May 3.

Held over a 16-mile course west of Dulverton, this year's event saw 141 teams - each made up of youngsters aged between 10 and 18 - compete across rugged moorland. Of the 555 children who began the challenge, 480 completed the route and were each awarded a medal.
