Sharing our pain on a mighty challenge

As far as possible, I run every day - sometimes only two miles, often six, but my favourite runs are races that are over 30 miles.

Last week, I travelled to Devon with my friend Ian to try to finish the 34-mile Outer Edge Events Dartmoor Crossing. This race is not for the fainthearted with the potential of uneven or boggy surfaces for much of the course plus a total of more than 3,000ft of ascent.

A 4am alarm was needed to get us to the finish at Ivybridge Rugby Club where we got a coach to the 9am start the other side of Dartmoor with a 10-hour cut off to run back to Ivybridge. At least that way it's easy to get home when it's over.
