IT won't be just metal that is heavy when Black Sabbath play their final gig in three weeks.

BRUM MORE TIME

Millions of fans' hearts will also be leaden as the founders of a rock genre play their last notes.

The original band are going back home to where they forged the pioneering sound way back in 1968.

They will be joined in an extraordinary line-up at Villa Park in Birmingham by heavy metal legends including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and Alice In Chains.

Sabbath's farewell will make rock history. They are calling the event Back To The Beginning, so we decided to explore our photo archive to look back on the lives and wild times of the band.

We have produced Black Sabbath - End of an Era, a magazine to relive the iconic group's past glories.
