A LITTLE BRIT CONFLICTING FOR CRITIC'S CHOICE WINNER JACOB

JACOB Alon is still buzzing after scooping their first Brit Award - only they don't feel British.

It's been an amazing 12 months for the non-binary folk artist from Fife, achieving a Mercury Prize nomination for debut album In Limerence, and now following in the footsteps of Adele by collecting the prestigious Brits Critics' Choice award.But receiving a gong titled Brit is a little uncomfortable for Jacob who admits: "I'm conflicted because I'm Scottish and I'm Irish, not British.

"I'm an anti-Unionist. I want an independent and unified Ireland and I want an independent, unified Scotland. I always feel strange when things are labelled as British, or Scottish artists are put under the wing of being British."

Nevertheless Jacob is clearly delighted to be recognised for their music:

"I never really grew up watching the BRITs or anything. So, I don't have a foundation of appreciation for it in the way that maybe some people do.
