World leaders congratulate PM Wong and party on election victory

Leaders around the world have extended their congratulations to Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and the PAP on their resounding election victory on May 3.

The US said on May 3 that the Trump administration looked forward to working closely with the newly elected government.

"For nearly 60 years, the United States and Singapore have shared a strong and enduring strategic partnership, and a commitment to a secure, free and prosperous Indo-Pacific region," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement.

"We look forward to continuing to work closely with the newly elected government and Prime Minister Wong to strengthen economic growth and our bilateral defence and security ties, which benefit Americans, Singaporeans and others across the region."

Conveying his "warmest congratulations", Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim wished PM Wong and his team continued success.

"We are bound not only by geography, but by enduring ties of kith and kin. As we look to the future, our two countries are building a habit of deep collaboration at all levels – a vital foundation as we navigate profound challenges to global order and international trade," Datuk Seri Anwar said in a May 4 Facebook post.
