Singapore Motorshow 2025 Chinese EVs Dominate the Show

The presence of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brands at the Singapore Motorshow is hard to ignore, especially when they account for 11 out of the 28 participating car brands. Happening at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre from Jan 9 to 12, the event may well be a preview of what Singapore's roads will be like in the coming years as EV adoption continues to rise.

There are newcomers, such as Deepal and Neta, that are using the event to launch their brands and products.

Then there is the mighty BYD, which is likely to be 2024's top-selling brand when the full-year registration data is announced in the coming weeks. Although BYD rose to prominence only in recent years, the Chinese brand has been in Singapore since 2016. It launched Denza, its luxury brand, in the Republic in 2024.

Mr Dean Cher - head of SP Mobility, a subsidiary of utilities company SP Group - says BYD's success in Singapore has paved the way for other Chinese EV brands to gain acceptance. This is happening as operators like SP Group have been installing more chargers in private, commercial and public carparks alongside the growth in EV population.
