Pubs flow with draught in hope Magpies end drought

An archive news clip from 1976 says so much about the passion and fervour of Newcastle United's fans.
An open-top bus tours Newcastle city centre, to applause from streets full of people, there for the lads. The catch: Newcastle have just lost the League Cup final to Manchester City. "We Nearly Won The Cup" is the chant being heard.
The club's search for a first domestic trophy since winning the 1955 FA Cup has continued another 49 years.
An unlikely League Cup final victory over Premier League champions-in-waiting Liverpool at Wembley on March 16 is the latest chance.
By March 14 evening, London was swelling with Geordies, though the following day, their fans were not able to repeat the flash mob that descended on Trafalgar Square when Newcastle reached and lost the 2023 League Cup final to Manchester United.
