Police question Indonesian comedian over Netflix show

An Indonesian stand-up comedian, who is the first from his country to air a special on Netflix, was called in for questioning on Feb 6, after police said they had received complaints that some of the material in the show was insulting and blasphemous.

Pandji Pragiwaksono, 46, came out of Jakarta’s police headquarters on Feb 6 evening about seven hours after going in. Police said he had been summoned, but did not name him as a suspect in any offence, or mention any formal charges.

“I tried to answer the police’s questions as best as I could, and I don’t think I had committed religious blasphemy,” the actor, radio broadcaster and television presenter told reporters.

“I will just follow the legal process.”
