National identity. What it means to be a good citizen

The Straits Times

As Singapore approaches its next chapter of nationhood, the question of what it means to be a good citizen takes on renewed importance.

- Er Meng Hwa

Beyond economic success and technological advancement, the true strength of our nation lies in the everyday spirit of care, unity and responsibility that each Singaporean carries.

Citizenship is more than holding a passport or singing the National Anthem. It is a lifelong journey of growing with our country, embracing opportunities to serve, and extending kindness and solidarity to our fellow citizens.

I have captured this spirit in the following reflection:

The art of citizenship is to continue to love our nation and grow with it as long as we live.

Every moment brings opportunity for us to serve with integrity and care.
