The actress is magnetic as a stripper who weds the playboy son of a Russian oligarch
The story: Russian-American stripper Ani (Mikey Madison) catches the eye of Ivan (Mark Eydelshteyn), the pleasure-loving playboy son of a Russian oligarch. After a whirlwind romance, they get married. Ivan's unhappy parents send their goons after the couple, setting off a chase covering New York's Russian and Ukrainian enclaves. Anora won the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the first American film to do so since The Tree Of Life (2011).
American writer-director Sean Baker's latest film continues his interest in people on the fringes of society. This time, he shows off the Little Odessa neighbourhood of New York in all its variety, from bars and restaurants to dancehalls and nightclubs.
