Have only 15 minutes a day to prepare for Primary 1? Try this
The Straits Times
|December 08, 2025
If parents have only 15 minutes each evening for Primary 1 preparation, Madam Wong Pei Fen, a senior teacher at Yishun Primary School, suggests they spend it on meaningful conversations.
-
One way is to start by asking their child open-ended questions, like "What went well in school today?" "This helps children reflect on experiences, process emotions and feel connected after being apart all day," she says.
Doing so daily strengthens emotional reinforces stability and self-management skills, supporting Primary 1 transition far more effectively than academic worksheets, she says.
In fact, there are practical, play-based activities that teach the same foundational concepts as a typical assessment book.
