PARIS - The €600,000 (S$900,000) Group 1 Prix Vermeille (2,400m) at ParisLongchamp on Sept 7 is traditionally regarded as an accurate indicator of possible success in the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe - also known as the Arc - over the same course and distance on Oct 5, and this weekend's edition is no exception.
The Ralph Beckett-trained Bluestocking beat French filly Aventure into second in both races last season and, with Christophe Ferland's runner-up back in the Prix Vermeille along with some ultra-talented probable Arc-bound fillies, a repeat scenario cannot be ruled out.
Aventure - who won her first two starts in the Group 3 Prix Allez France (2,000m) and the Group 2 Prix Corrida (2,100m) in 2025 - was given a summer break to freshen up with the big autumn prizes in mind.
