LONDON - Mikel Arteta has urged Arsenal to use the "pain" of their first loss in six months as motivation for the Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk on Oct 22.

Bournemouth pain for Shakhtar gain: Arteta

The Gunners suffered a shock 2-0 defeat by Bournemouth on Oct 19 after defender William Saliba was sent off in the first half.

It meant they lost ground at the top of the English Premier League and finished the weekend four points behind leaders Liverpool.

But Arteta, speaking at his prematch press conference on Oct 21, said there was no need to panic after a first defeat since April.

"You have a defeat, that's part of the game, it happens in very specific conditions as well," he said.

"Let's move on, take that pain we still have in the tummy and use it for tomorrow night." He added: "It puts a bit of perspective into the situation. Obviously, we want to win in any context.

"The reality is that we have made that context very difficult for ourselves.
