Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed shock over nature's fury and promised all support to the victims after the Glacial Lake Lhonak outburst flood in Mangan district in North Sikkim that caused the rise of water levels with very high velocities downstream along the river Teesta in the early hours today affecting Mangan, Gangtok, Pakyong, and Namchi districts.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened by the recent and unexpected incident that occurred due to the sudden surge of the Teesta River caused by the cloud burst at its source in North Sikkim. This natural calamity, driven by the uncontrollable forces of nature, has left many of our fellow citizens in distress and uncertainty,” Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said in his written message.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi phoned him and assured all possible helps, sources said.
“In these challenging times, I want to extend my heartfelt support to all the victims and their families affected by this unfortunate event. Our thoughts and prayers are with all during these difficult hours,” Sikkim CM Mr Tamang said.
